Adding new photographs of Liguria,
the Italian Rivieras and Italy every month. |
Choose from 3 itineraries from 4 to 8 hours. Minimum time required is 4 hrs. Descend onto the coast from the mountains 'over' the sea.
1. Medium Walk: Graded BLUE, 4 to 6 hrs. 2. Long Walk: Graded RED, 5 to 7 hrs. 3. Long & Hard Walk: Graded BLACK, 6 to 8 hrs.
Levels of Difficulty
GREEN : Requiring no walking experience at all, typically for those itineraries which offer a scenic way to visit the seaside towns of the Riviera. BLUE : These itineraries are for those of reasonable fitness and who quite regularly take leisurely country walks. They will typically take 3-4 hrs and without too many ups and downs. RED : For those that consider a good walk to last 4-6 hrs and are not put off by the odd hill climb. BLACK : If you want a long day's walk with a generous sprinkling of ups, including the odd mountain, then these are the ones to take. Although these trails follow marked pathways, the terrain is often rugged requiring good walking gear. A good level of fitness and a 'head for heights' required.
Back-pack hints
* Bottled water: it is suggested that you take at least 1.5 litres of water per person and more during the months of July and August. * Mobile phone: should you ever need assistance, phone Xtrallusion on the number given below at any time. Other than in a few locations, mobile phone coverage is good and you should never be without a network for more than a few hundred metres. * Sunglasses. * Shorts, T-shirt and a cajole in case of wind. * Fleece & cajole when walking in the higher coastal alps.
Tips
* It is recommended to take food & water on this walk since once out of the village and into the mountains, there are no shops or cafes. Get panini made up for you in one of the 'deli' type shops along the vicolo or buy pizza and focaccia from a focacceria. Alternatively, go to a supermarket and buy whatever provisions you wish. * Since weather and good visibility is important for this itinerary, check the cloud coverage over the mountains behind the resort village before starting. Go to the end of the jetty reached from the promenade opposite the hotel, where you should be able to see the peaks and high ridges. If visibility is bad but looks to be clearing, wait until 1030 and check again. If it doesn't seem to be getting clearer by 1030, do itinerary CW-05 instead, "The coast 'under' the High Riviera Alps", which can be started late morning and still allowing plenty of time for the walk. Do this itinerary on the first following day when visibility is good. |
