The
thing with Italy and many of it's towns and cities, is that you
are always aware of the great contrast between beauty and 'ugliness'
- the beauty and the beast. Nothing conforms to a standard level
of tidiness, order or cleanliness - you see in one direction
graffiti covered walls and badly maintained buildings and streets,
and then the other way, a beautiful Piazza, boutique, park or
building. An old scooter passes ridden by an immaculately dressed
woman. Nothing borders onto sterility here, nor is there ever
a constant level of perceived 'perfection' and order that you
get in Switzerland for example. Wherever you go, there are new
surprises for all your senses - maybe it is these great contrasts
in the daily life which gives Italy it's charm, it's vibrant
life and it's visitors a never ending curiosity. |
